Hello all,
I've seen a number of conversations lately about how to write reports that are more easily accessible to parents.
The truth is, writing a report that documents all our data, serves multiple audiences, is legally defensible, AND is easy for parents to read is TRICKY!
To this end, I wanted to
share an article I released today for parents, to help them understand our reports. Over the last few months I've been surveying and interviewing parents and, it turns out, many parents asked for help "translating" their psychoed or neuropsych report into actionable next steps.
The resulting article outlines 4 questions parents can ask at a feedback session to make sure they understand the testing results. You can check it out here:
This article is based on a strategy I use to help me write up a quick, 1-page, bulleted summary of testing results during my feedback sessions with families. This is one way I've found helpful to make sure all of my audiences get what they need.
While this article is designed for parents, I'm wondering if it will also be helpful for practitioners to:
- Quickly summarize our reports
- Easily create a document parents can share with teachers, coaches, or others who do not need the full report
- Plan the most important information to share at feedback sessions (with adults or children!)
- And if you work with families in a consultation or therapy capacity, helping them process the assessment they received from the school, hospital, or elsewhere.
I hope these ideas and tools are helpful to you and the families you work with!
Warmly,
Liz
