On Saturday, the Cleveland community and supporters met for breakfast burritos before spending the morning hauling buckets and buckets of decomposed granite for an outdoor classroom. Because of the site's multi-tier layout, trucks were unable to unload the decomposed granite at any other location but the playground. From there, volunteers loaded bucket after bucket and moved the granite to an upper-level staging area, where it was loaded into wheelbarrows, and painstakingly pushed up walkways to the garden area behind classrooms at the back of the campus. Santa Barbara Police Explorers, Officer Kent Wojciechoski, Santa Barbara City College garden interns, Orfalea Foundation representatives, parents, and friends of the school joined together to help make this new learning center happen.
