A teacher at one of the schools we work with is looking for a mentor text for 4th and 5th grade.  Here is a description of what she is looking for.  I was hoping someone might have some recommendations.

I am looking for a mentor text that will anchor a two-month long (maximum of 8 lessons) on the 4th Grade Smoothie Garden and 5th Grade Herb Garden.  Text can be fictional, non-fictional, picture book, poetry, etc.  The text should be easily read aloud in 10-15 minute recording(s). The content can cover nutrition, plant information, healthy body systems, or even connect to Native American culture for health and healing.

Thanks,

Amy Bowman

Amy, I'll forward your question to my contact at the Maryland agricultural Education Foundation since they have a lot of books paired to lessons lists... I wouldn't be surprised if your state has a similar foundation with a contact there to get to know too!

Hi Amy,

Here is a list of garden related literature lists. The Food Tank list has many books that share about different cultures and food.
