PLC Purpose:

The District-Led School Garden Peer Learning Community (PLC) is a collaborative space for school district staff and partners responsible for coordinating and supporting district-wide school garden programs. Through peer-to-peer learning, shared problem-solving, case studies, and resource exchange, members strengthen the systems, strategies, and infrastructure needed to develop, manage, scale, and sustain school garden and Farm to School initiatives across districts of varying sizes and stages of development.

PLC Co-Coordinators:

Phylicia Moore, Houston Independent School District, Houston, TX

Phyllicia is the Farm to School Education Manager for Houston ISD, where she leads district-wide food and agriculture education initiatives connecting school gardens, agricultural literacy, nutrition, and experiential learning. A formally trained agricultural educator with more than a decade of experience in K–12 education, she brings a teacher's perspective and a systems-level approach to building sustainable Farm to School programs. Phyllicia holds degrees in Agriculture Science and Agricultural Education and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Organizational Leadership. She is passionate about creating practical, scalable ways for school gardens and Farm to School programs to thrive across entire districts.

John Fisher, Life Lab, Santa Cruz, CA - John’s experience in district-led school garden programs includes being a program site manager for Life Lab’s Partner School Program in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District and a collaborator with Live Oak School District school gardens and district farm. John has been engaged with teaching students & educators in school gardens for over 3 decades. Over the years he has co-founded the California School Garden Network and the SGSO Network. He worked for over a decade as a garden teacher at Pacific Elementary and Starlight Elementary.
