HI SGSO Network!
Karen Saake here, I am the Garden Program Director at Sage Garden Project. I am also a San Diego County Master Gardener (SDMG). The SDMG program has an amazing school garden committee that supports 100s of school gardens. I am partnering with the SGSO network to look into how many Master Gardeners we have in the network and how we might form a group to explore how Master Gardener groups around the nation can best support school gardens and to share this information with the network.
If you are a Master Gardener interested in investigating this further with me please complete this Google Form!
Garden on,
Karen

Yay, Karen!

We're so excited to know how many Master Gardeners are in our Network and how we can come together to support your work in school gardens! Thanks so much to Karen for taking the lead on this.

Best,
Tristana

I have been interested in incorporating MG's into our program as garden coaches. This idea has yet to catch, however it could be a great way for MG's to spread their wealth of knowledge.

Garden coaches would visit with each school's garden leadership once every two weeks during the growing season. They give tips for what to plant, are you watering enough, is your compost functioning, and general recommendations on what is needed to maintain a thriving garden.

I currently do this for 10 schools in my district. However, I am not a master gardener.

I am a Master Gardener in Sedgwick County (Wichita), Kansas.  Our School Gardening Committee is pretty small.  We are currently only in one elementary school but have done some one-time programs in several other elem. schools.  We had just started the committee a year or so before COVID. Didn't participate for about a year or so. Our committee members are small in numbers.  We are fortunate with the school we are in as they got grants to incorporate the garden and are in the process of applying to get more money and build the program.

Our food agent is phenomenal and until she came here we weren't in any schools.  We are hoping to build up the committee members as what we do with just a few taxes everyone.
