Hi all!

My org, City Growers, orders veggies and herbs from GrowNYC's plant sale each year on behalf of schools that we partner with.

We're a fairly small org with only a few partners this spring, and usually the veggies come in flats of 32 plants. We aren't buying many veggies this year from GrowNYC for that reason. Does anyone have suggested alternatives for where to get seedlings at a discounted rate in New York City?

Thank you so much!

Warmly,

Hannah,

I am not familiar with New York City's offerings, but in our region I am often able to get starts for free from local farmers. Sometimes they just have a few extra that didn't fit in the field or didn't sell at market and when I reach out they are usually happier to donate them than pay workers to throw excess product on the compost pile.

Not sure if that is applicable with your situation. But maybe? *shrugs shoulders*

Thanks for your suggestion, Dana! We'll ask the farms we partner with for extras.

Hey Hannah,

If you are willing to come out to Newark, Greater Newark Conservancy has a warm-season seedling share May 14th-May15th. Better yet, it's completely free! Here is the link to the organization and the event details: https://www.citybloom.org/events/event-calendar.html/event/2022/05/15/warm-season-seedling-distribution/373762
