Hi all,
Do you have any materials (or could you point me to some) on home vegetable gardening that is appropriate for middle schoolers? We have a partner looking for an already created handout one of her schools can print and share out with their families. She's looking for something that can be sent home now to families and students to promote gardening/eating together at home while highlighting the fact that their school has a garden. She can create this, just wanted to check before doing so in case resources already existed.

Thanks for those two great resources! While they both have specific lessons and other great resources we can use another time, I did not see a general flyer for middle school families regarding gardening. Does anyone else have anything to share?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jen-

On our KidsGardening webpage we have a number of different resources that we categories as How-tos that are good for beginner gardeners.  I am not exactly sure if this is what you are for, but here is a link to one on vegetable gardens:

At the top of most of the articles (including this one) you can find a "click to download this resource" which will lead you to a pdf file of the information that could be printed.

You can find additional similar articles at:
Designing a School Garden (most also work for home gardens): https://kidsgardening.org/designing-a-school-garden/

You may also want to check with your local Extension Office because they may have something that would be really helpful specifically for your local growing conditions.  Looks like you are in Michigan so you might want to start here: https://www.canr.msu.edu/home_gardening/

Hope this helps.

Sarah

We have updated our page to include school garden activities that can be done at home and they are broken by Preschool, elementary, Middle school.  Check it out.  Hoping one of the four MS activities will work for your needs.

I think your Extension office would be a good place to check. Ours has many resources, including this one on home gardens: https://store.extension.iastate.edu/product/Planting-a-Home-Vegetable-Garden

Also, this is a new video series from our Extension focused on home gardening. There are print resources too.
