Columbus City Schools Farm to School Program provides each teacher with the Growing Teachers Throughout the Seasons guidebook. This guidebook walks classrooms through growing and harvesting 9 different plants during the school year. It included step by step directions, recipes, etc. I also send out a newsletter with reminders, updates, videos, etc to all teachers who have come to the training and received the growing supplies.

Here is the link to the online modules:

Hi All,
We are currently updating our DC school garden planting calendar<https://osse.dc.gov/publication/dc-school-garden-planting-calendar> and want to also expand it to include additional resources to help educators have more success with planting, growing, and caring for their plants. I'm curious what type of guidance folks offer to educators to assist them with knowing when to plant, what to plant, how to plant, and WHY to plant. I'm especially interested in the why- for example do you have resources that make connections between specific activities/ lessons and specific plants.

Maybe you have list like this?

Plant (WHAT)
Example Activities (WHY)
Kale
Kale activity
Tomatoes
Tomato activity
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potato activity
Sorrell
Sorrell activity
Milkweed
Milkweed activity

Thanks!

Here is ours. We also have additional pages to add so that teachers can use
these year after year and look back at previous years to see what worked
and what didn’t.

Here is a simple demo we do and a poster we reference when first introducing knives.
Hope that’s helpful!
