Happy Halloween Gardineers!

A reminder that a lot of free straw bales become available the day after Halloween. Check OfferUp, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for listings.

Straw bales are great for temporary seating, mulching pathways and garden beds and can even become growing containers themselves (aka straw bale gardening).

Important: do not confuse them with hay bales.

Best,

Hello 👋,

I was wondering if y’all had any effective means or resources of teaching knife safety to students, especially middle/high schoolers, for cooking and tasting experiences.

Also, some key points to address at the beginning of a cooking session to ensure safety for everyone.

Thanks again.

Here are a few I’ve used - I also had students first make play doh from scratch, and practice knife cuts and safety with plastic knives.
Once they were confident and showed success, they moved on to real knives and food.
