An Intro to Incorporating Greenhouses into Your School Garden: Extending Your Garden-Based Learning and Growing Season 12/2/20 11am-12:15pm PST
This workshop is an introduction for educators who are exploring ways to incorporate a greenhouse as a hands-on learning environment and/or tool to extend their growing. It will offer information and resources for establishing a new project or further activating an existing greenhouse or hoop house. The presentation will highlight the Greenhouse Manual created by the United States Botanic Garden, the National Center for Appropriate Technology and City Blossoms, which participants can download for free. Youth Staff members from Mighty Greens will also share their expertise and experiences growing and running their business in greenhouses in DC.

Lauren Newman, Youth Entrepreneurship Cooperative Manager, and Willa Pohlman, Director of Programming and Trainings at City Blossoms. City Blossoms is a DC based nonprofit that fosters healthy communities through innovative, community engaging programming and green spaces. City Blossoms supports schools pre-k through high school through five main program areas including the Youth Entrepreneurship Cooperative program. City Blossoms has nearly a decade of experience working with youth in greenhouses and recently worked with the United States Botanic Garden and the National Center for Appropriate Technology to produce a greenhouse manual for educators.

Jadyn Turner and Breyana Brooks are Youth Staff cooperative members from Mighty Greens, a youth led, garden-based entrepreneurship project. The cooperative members of Mighty Greens use their high school gardens and greenhouses as spaces to learn how to care for plants and produce while growing their business.
