Our school gardens in high-poverty neighborhoods are periodically visited by classrooms of affluent private school students dropping in to do a couple of hours of community service. In the past, we grumbled about how much of our labor it took to coordinate and supervise these groups, who honestly aren't terribly helpful, given their lack of gardening skills and proclivity to stop working and stare at their phones.
I've recently started charging for these visits, which feels more equitable. Does anyone else do this? I'm thinking about how I should describe the service we provide on the invoices. Ideas?
