Hi Everyone,

We had a great webinar yesterday on the connections between School food service and school gardens.

Here are the relevant resources:
  • Recording is on our webinars page in the Archived section
  • Handout from the presentation with relevant links, including a link to the presentation slides
There were a couple of follow up questions. If you have answers or suggestions for these questions, please respond to this thread and we can all learn more!
  1. Does anyone know of guidelines on ways to provide school garden produce that has been preserved to serve for school lunches-- such as canned tomato sauce or pickles, or relish, etc.?
  2. There are some food service management companies (FSMC) that don't allow school garden produce to be used in the cafeteria. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to work with or around this?
Thanks!

Best,
Tristana

Here are two resources to address webinar attendee questions:

Q: There are some food service management companies (FSMC) that don't allow school garden produce to be used in the cafeteria. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to work with or around this?
A: On this page of Garden to Cafeteria Policy and Protocol Resources ( www.lifelab.org/garden-to-cafeteria) you can find
Sodexo Food Management Company protocols: School Garden Safety Protocol and School Garden Weekly Checklist
This would be a good example to share with your school food management company. I would also suggest direct conversations with the management company where you share the protocol, program examples and videos shared on this page Garden to Cafeteria Policy and Protocol Resources ( www.lifelab.org/garden-to-cafeteria

Q: Someone asked for samples of Mount Diablo Unified School District Recipes
