Hi everyone!

I wanted to pop in because April is National Garden Month, and it always feels like such a special time in school gardens—everything starts coming back to life, and there’s this renewed energy with students.

I’m really curious, what does this month look like for you and your students?

  • How is your school celebrating National Garden Month?
  • What are students most excited to grow right now?
  • Are you doing any special activities, events, or lessons this month?
  • What’s been a recent “win” in your garden program?

Feel free to share photos, ideas, or even challenges you’re working through—this community is such a powerful place to learn from one another.

Kids Gardening is celebrating with Kids Garden Month bingo! Every year we host a fun contest celebrating kids in the garden and this year we made a bingo board of gardening activities for kids of all ages. Submit a child's bingo card for a chance to win prizes!

I hope folks try it out with their young gardeners! We also have a contest for adults in the Kids Garden Community: https://community.kidsgardening.org/events/kids-garden-month-2026

Cheers,
Beth

Thanks for asking, Jessica! I'll share a "garden win"!

SustainEd Farms is working with one of our partner schools, a high school for pregnant teens and teen moms, to build a garden on campus from scratch. This project has been in the dream stage for years, and we finally broke ground this week! We've built and filled the beds, created ADA-accessible pathways, designed a children's play area, and much more, with the help of our community. Soon, a gorgeous mural that students helped design will be painted near the garden, and we'll plant out the beds with students and their families.

Over the summer, we will pay high school interns from the school to care for the garden (alongside mentors), while they learn about green and sustainable career pathways for after they graduate.

This ambitious and intentional project coming to life during National Garden Month feels super fitting!

We have been conducting book talks and signings at libraries, schools, public gardens, garden centers, garden clubs,  conferences and bookstores.
