East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides Master's and
Doctoral funding for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the
U.S. to participate in educational and research programs at the
East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of
Hawai‘i. Through East-West Center affiliation, awardees become part of
a growing network of students and alumni forging the shape and

Australia: Flinders University: PhD Scholarship in Material - Stem Cell Interactions
Flinders University: Novel Platforms for the high-throughput analysis of cell-surface interactions
One CSIRO PhD scholarship of $25,000 p.a. is available to gain an understanding of material - stem cell interactions using novel microarray platforms. This interdisciplinary project will include fundamental experimental and theoretical studies of the influence of factors such as surface chemistry, roughness, topography and substrate elasticity on the behaviour of specific stem cells. Applicants should hold a good Honours degree in chemistry, biotechnology or nanotechnology. This scholarship is subject to approval by the CSIRO. Students already holding an APA or equivalent scholarship can receive a stipend "top up" of $7,000 p.a.

Australia: Vacation scholarships at The Ian Wark Research Institute
The Ian Wark Research Institute welcomes applications for vacation
scholarships from students who have consistently achieved a high level
of academic performance in their degree program. As a minimum
requirement, students must have completed the first year of their
degree program.
Scholarships apply for up
to two months (usually between the December - February period) and
enable successful applicants to work with one or more strong research
sectors in the Institute. The tax-free stipend is $300 per week.
Applicants are encouraged to visit The Wark, to view our facilities, and
to meet some of our research staff and postgraduate students. Project outlines are discussed and developed
in conjunction with successful applicants prior to commencement.

Australia: Internships Program for Overseas Students at The Ian Wark Research Institute
The Ian Wark Research Institute has an internship program available to senior
undergraduate students from overseas universities/institutes to attend
The Wark as part of their required study
program.
Subject
to project availability and funding, The Wark accepts approximately ten
internship students each year. This internship period can last from
four months up to one year. Internship students are paid a subsistence
allowance of AU$250 per week and accommodation can be arranged (approximately
AU$100 per week excluding meals). Please note that The Wark does not provide funds for travel.
Applications for 2006 are now closed.
Applications for 2007 will commence in October 2006. Please note that due to very limited places
for 2007, preference will be given to students whose home university/institute
has an official
agreement with The Wark (see list below) or UniSA.

BIONET is a ‘Coordination Action’ funded under the Sixth Framework
Programme to research the ethical governance of biological and
biomedical research in China and to run workshops and conferences. It
includes 21 partners, including 6 Chinese institutions, and nine
European countries. BIOS at LSE is the lead partner. You will undertake
research, data analysis, writing and publication within the framework
of BIONET, assist with project organization and management, and develop
and undertake individual research relevant to the aims and objectives
of BIONET.
You should have a good first degree, a doctorate in a relevant field
in the social sciences, and experience in undertaking and managing
research projects, report writing and publication. An interest in the
ethics of biomedical research and clinical practice is essential, as is
an interest in China, although previous knowledge or experience of
research in China is not essential. Chinese language skills are not
essential.
