Switzerland: International Master's Scholarship at The Universität Bern

The Universität Bern will offer international students Excellence Scholarships for postgraduate study for the academid year 2007/08.

The scholarship consists of 1600 CHF per month for the entire duration of the Master's programme.

For further information (study programmes, major, minor, etc.) about the Master's programmes offered at our university please contact the departement concerened directly.

Criteria for selection:
  • Applicants must, by end of July 2007,  have graduated with at least a Bachelor's degree in the same field of study as the selected Master's programme
  • Applicants must be admitted to a Master's programme by a factulty of Universität Bern
  • The applicant's place of residence during the application period must be outside Switzerland

Job description
The candidate will play an active role in the research program that aims to fine-map genes involved in meat quality traits in pigs. The objective of your activity is to narrow down the chromosomal location of the genes affecting quality traits and to develop efficient molecular tool for screening the population.

Requirements
You have PhD degree and preferably postdoctoral experience outside The Netherlands in the field of molecular genetics. You must have good experiences with molecular as well as analytical tools for fine mapping. You view this position as an opportunity to further stimulate your development as a scientist. You should be a creative, devoted, and independent researcher, excellent communication skills in spoken/written English and be motivated to travel. We are looking for a creative team-player who is able to motivate people.

The 3-year program, entirely taught in English, provides comprehensive scientific training in a superb and vibrant research environment with state of the art facilities and cutting-edge research projects covering areas of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular medicine, neurobiology and structural biology. Japan: Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF) 2007

The Japan Foundation offers scholarship to study the Japanese language for Asian students, who wish to study at graduate schools in Japan and have a strong wish to contribute to regional cooperation after obtaining a Master or Ph. D Degree.

Field of Study

We welcome students wishing to studying in the fields of: Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering and Natural Sciences.

  • Fields of study must be one of those available at Japanese universities. Practical training given by factories or companies is excluded.
  • Japanese Studies or Japanese Culture Studies are not fit for the purpose of this Program.

FEATURES OF THE ASIAN YOUTH FELLOWSHP PROGRAM

The scholarship grantees shall take a preparatory course in the Japanese language and other subjects for approximately 7 months at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai , situated in Osaka, Japan. Grantees shall live in the provided dormitory through the Program.

Grantees will thereafter be matriculated into Japanese universities as Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship students (Research Student or regular course students) from April 2008.

Denmark: PhD Fellowship in Computer Science at Roskilde University

We are seeking an object oriented programmer with a desire for a career in theoretical population biology. A physics, engineering or computing science background would be an advantage.

The objective of this project is to design and implement software to create a single individual based model that is scalable, encompassing individual variability in spatial, cognitive, phenotypic, genetic and ontogenetic dimensions.

Generous grant paid in Danish kroner; covers salary, consummables and travel.

This project is in collaboration with University of Reading, UK and it is expected that the candidate spends approximately equal time in Denmark and Reading.
