timing out? for both chrome and firefox

I cannot seem to use scholarometer anymore on both a PC and a Mac using either Chrome or Firefox.  It's been about a year since I tried. 

When I use Firefox, after about 20% on the processing bar I get the error
[Java Script Application]
Error: status code is 503

I updated my Java and I still get that error.

When I use Chrome, after about 20% on the processing bar I get the error
Scholarometer for Google Chrome TM
Error: status code is 0

Am I doing something wrong?

I am unable to reproduce the problem, it seems to work fine for me
right now, using Chrome on a Mac. Will contact you separately.

I am experiencing the same issue with both the Firefox and Chrome versions, on multiple machines across multiple IPs.

I saved a log of the network activity, in Chrome, which may help - http://pastebin.com/f6gRkxNy


When I open that link, Google challenges with a captcha. When I solve that, then I get the expected search results. I thought that I was just IP banned from Google Scholar, but if I go to there and run the same query directly, it runs with no captcha, and even running the same thing in Publish or Perish works properly. Also, Scholarometer keeps giving the same error across machines and networks.

Same problem for me (503 on Firefox, 0 on Chrome; MacBook Pro running OS 10.11.6; located in Europe). Started about 8 weeks ago. Have current version of Java. It is working fine in other contexts. Deinstalled and reinstalled the add-on in Firefox. All to no avail. What can I do?

Hello, thank you for flagging this. We are aware of the problem and have found the cause. Unfortunately the fix is not trivial and, given our lack of resources, we do not have an ETA for when we might be able to address it. 

So for the time being the query by author name is not working. The query by Scholar ID should still work.
