Messages coming into logo-l from comp.lang.logo are moderated by me and I
filter out any SPAM from the newsgroup. The volume of messages on
comp.lang.logo is not high and I gladly perform this service. However,
logo-l can also be posted to by anyone, including non-members. This has
the advantage of allowing participants with multiple email addresses to
subscribe with one address but post to logo-l from any of their addresses.
It also allows members of logo-l-digest to send messages to logo-l. The
disadvantage is that it is possible for a non-member to send SPAM. I tried
actively moderating logo-l about 6 months ago when we had several
disgusting SPAM sent to logo-l. I did this for 2 weeks and it was a lot of
work and not a single SPAM showed up.
I am willing to actively moderate logo-l to filter out SPAM if it becomes a
regular problem. However, until that happens (and I hope it doesn't), I
request that members of logo-l and logo-l-digest just delete any SPAM and
remember the importance of promoting positive human relationships to
counter the sick elements in our society as shown by the recent SPAM.
