I am aware of the virtues of software that will capture information from
the WWW; I am concerned about possible consequences. Specifically, a
server that stores this information maintains a log that records how many
times its information is accessed (among other data). This information,
downloaded into a spreadsheet with colorful graphs, can be very helpful
to people and institutions when they apply for funding. When we access and
capture information in one visit, and then have scores, or possibly
hundreds of incidents of student access to the whacked data sitting on our
intranet, are we, inadvertently, jeopardizing the existance of that site?
