On Friday, September 24th at 9:30 a.m., Guy T. Almes, Chief Engineer for
the Internet2 Project within the University Corporation for Advanced
Internet Development (UCAID), will present a talk on "Internet2:
Technology Innovation & Distributed Infrastructure."
The talk will be held at the Quinnipiac College School of Law, Hamden,
CT and is sponsored in part by the Connecticut Higher Education
Technology Association and the Technology Department at Quinnipiac Law.
The talk will be followed by a panel of experts on Internet2 from the
participating Universities in Connecticut.
Guy T. Almes is Chief Engineer for the Internet2 Project within the
University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID). Dr.
Almes is based at Advanced Network & Services, Inc. where he also serves
as Vice President, Network Development. He is a leader and a pioneer in
the development of the Internet. He was the founder and director of
Sesquinet, an NSFnet regional network for Texas universities, colleges
and corporations. He has served as Chairman of the Federation of
American Research Networks (FARnet) and Chairman of the
Interconnectivity Working Group of the IETF. Dr. Almes was a member of
the computer science faculties at the University of Washington and Rice
University. The author of many technical papers on operating systems,
software and networking, his current research interests are in the
design of advanced wide-area networks appropriate for supporting
advanced university applications, network performance measurement and
analysis, and application of advanced Internet functionality, such as
quality of service and multicast protocols. He received his B.A. in
Mathematics and Engineering, magna cum laude, and
M.E.E. from Rice University and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from
Carnegie-Mellon University.
