EDITORIAL
I know of no person capable of following everything going on within the
Kidlink community. After all, there are now some 75 public mailing lists
in 15 language areas in addition to the things going on in our real-time
interactions network. There's simply too much going on.
This diary does not pretend to cover it all. It very quickly list some
of what goes on within Kidlink, and occasionally provide links and
pointers for more information. Enjoy!

KIDLINK'S BIRTHDAY PARTY IS THIS WEEK
The dates of the Annual Celebration are May 6 through 8 this year. See

PARTICIPANTS
Nice people from strange places join us. Strange, at least for those of
us living far away. Among our new youth participants, we send special
greetings to Langzi Chiu in Niue, and to Charlotte Joan Prince in Two
Boats Village, Ascension Island.

PROGRAMS
The first round of the "<Who am I?>" program, focusing on European
teachers, ended in April. A <Latin American> cycle starts now (in May), and
a new northern hemisphere cycle will start in September this year. Main
languages in the Latin American program are Spanish, Portuguese, and

The Kidlink c2d Newsletter - Vol 01 Issue 01 - is at

Kidlink's Danish language activities comprise a large number of projects
attracting many school classes and a full local mirror of Kidlink's over
100,000 pages web site. Their greatest successes until now have been
"Eventyrstafetten" (The Fairy Tales Relay) and "Julehistorier" (Christmas
Stories). Right now, the Danish team run a "Middelalder" (Medieval Times)
project, with 700 registered kids from 36 classes. The ongoing process of
all projects is displayed on the web, including submitted pictures and
drawings. Their plans for August through December 1999 is outlined at

VOLUNTEERS

Our language translation team is always short of helpers. If interested,

responses to Kidlink's four questions.
APPLAUSE, PLEASE!
Patti Weeg of <Kidproj >fame, and her Delmar Students, were chosen as
April's "*Amazing Kids! of the Month*" by http://www.amazing-kids.org. The
award article highlighted KIDLINK projects and teachers like Isamu Shimizaki,
Dennis Buccola, Francois Pignot, and Carla Hurchalla, as well as The " <Who
am I?>" program.
MORE RECOGNITION
Kidlink was recently recognized in a French language list called
*Recherche documentaire et liens pour la classe - espace enfants*
(http://cartables.net/enfants/index.php3).
The Schrockguide Award (http://discoveryschool.com/schrockguide/content.html)
recently selected Kidlink's KIDPROJ Multi-Cultural Calendar web
(http://www.kidlink.org/KIDPROJ/MCC/).
Kidlink was chosen as one of 17 finalists in the IT in Education
category of the Bangemann Challenge. Odd de Presno (Norway), Marisa Lucena
and Clarisse Olivieri de Lima (Brazil) plan to be present at the award

At IBest 98/99, Kidlink's Brazil pages were classified among the 10 best
Brazilian sites in the "Infantil" (youth) category for 1998. A total of
7,000 sites in all categories participated. A team of Kidlinkers headed by

THE KIDLINK COMMUNITY
Clarisse Olivieri de Lima (Brazil) has been promoted to the position as
Assistant Kidlink Webmaster.
Several Kidlinkers will make presentations at SBC/WIE'99 in Rio de
Janeiro this July. The list includes Odd de Presno (Norway), Bonnie
Thurber (USA), and Oscar Becerra (Peru). See
