Greetings S.A. family on the Internet,

The S.A. Blue Booklet identifies early on the purpose of S.A. As
stated in the Blue Booklet:

Statement of Purpose: Schizophrenics Anonymous is organized and
managed by persons experiencing schizophrenia or a related disorder.
It is administered in partnership with the Schizophrenia and Related
Disorders Alliance of America (SARDAA). The SA statement of purpose is
as follows:

To help restore dignity and sense of purpose for persons who are
working for recovery from schizophrenia or related disorders.

To offer fellowship, positive support, and companionship in order to
achieve good mental health.

To improve our own attitudes about our lives and our illness.

To provide members with latest information regarding schizophrenia.

To encourage members to take positive steps towards recovery from the
illness.

--Stress Management, part #51

Americans Still Stressed from Recession

Recent studies indicate that Americans are still very stressed-out
from this Great Recession of the economy that we have been in.
Newsweek did a recent public opinion poll on this subject. Some of
the answers to the survey questions are striking. For instance, when
Americans were asked:

* Generally speaking, are you anxious because of your economic
situation?
48 percent answered Yes to this question.

* How upset are you about the rising price of gas and other
commodities?
89 percent said they were upset about these things

* Are you nervous about your retirement?
70 percent said they were nervous about this.

* Have you lost sleep because of anger about your economic situation?
56 percent said they lost sleep on this all or some of the time

Further, one in three is now anxious about the prospect of getting
married, starting a family, or buying a home. And most people say
their relationships have been damaged by the recession.

I guess this is all by way of saying that if you feel stressed out
now, this is not peculiar to you. A really big chunk of the country
is also stress out. The Newsweek article on this does give a note of
encouragement though about this whole situation. We'll discuss that
in the next issue of the S.A. eLetter.

--Our Suffering in Perspective

The suffering of schizophrenia patients is real. And other people
suffer too. We wish to also recognize the struggles of other
suffering people. For instance:

Summer Flooding

In the Springtime there was enormous flooding in the Mississippi River
system. Now there is very damaging flooding going on in the upper
Midwest related to climate-related flooding of the Missouri River
system. Property damage and loss of homes are happening there again.

We do not suffer alone.
