Infolklore, a pontianak usually announces its presence through baby cries. If the cry is soft, it means that the pontianak is close, and if it is loud, then it must be far. Some believe that if you hear a dog howling, that means that the pontianak is far away. But if a dog is whining, that means the pontianak is nearby. Its presence can sometimes be detected by a nice floral fragrance identifiable as that of the plumeria, followed by an awful stench afterward.

A pontianak kills its victims by digging into their stomachs with its sharp fingernails and devouring their organs. In some cases where the pontianak desires revenge against a male individual, it rips out the sex organs with its hands. It is said that if you have your eyes open when a pontianak is near, it will suck them out of your head. Pontianak locate prey by sniffing out clothes left outside to dry. For this reason, some Malays refuse to leave any article of clothing outside of their residences overnight.

To fend off a pontianak, a nail must be plunged into the hole on the nape of her neck. This is said to make her a beautiful woman and a good wife until the nail is removed. In the case of the kuntilanak, the nail is plunged into the apex of her head.

The Indonesian kuntilanak is similar to the pontianak, but more commonly takes the form of a bird and sucks the blood of virgins and young women. The bird, which makes a "ke-ke-ke" sound as it flies, may be sent through black magic to make a woman sick, the characteristic symptom being vaginal bleeding. In the female form, when a man approaches her she suddenly turns and reveals that her back is hollow, but this apparition is more specifically referred to as sundel bolong.

There are numerous sightings of the Pontianak/Lang suir all over South East Asia, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia. Some of them are pranks and most of them are hoaxes. In August 2010 there was a video caught by a group of Malaysian Policeman PDRM in the town of Bentong, Pahang, Malaysia. The 2 minute long video does not show the apparition of the Pontianak in her full form.[3]

Eerie Aura: nature flees in terror from the fury of a kuntilanak. Within 100 feet of a kuntilanak, birds and insects cease singing. Livestock and pets whine, pace, and may even lash out at people. A sickly-sweet scent hangs in the air, a mix of rot and floral fragrances.

Organ Pierce: the kuntilanak stabs the victim with one of its claws, piercing and extracting organs. The victim suffers the maximum possible damage of 1D6 + damage bonus plus an additional 1D6 damage. Even if the victim survives, they are likely to suffer lifelong consequences.

This is my story about the red kuntilanak ghost, this incident when I was in 6th grade elementary school. At that time I took a nap, when waking up at 5.30 turns all the house people were leaving me alone at home. There was actually my uncle but he slept on the living room sofa with a TV. I then showered, after which I studied in the room.

The room door I left open, while reading, suddenly I heard someone calling my name. I thought it was my brother who had come home from tutoring, I went out and looked for my brother, I called his name over and over but no one answered, I began to shiver. I then continued my study, but suddenly someone passed in front of my room's door like a red shadow but at a glance, I was suddenly shocked! My hair is all standing up.

I then took the Koran for fear of death. I read all sorts of verses that I know. My heart keeps beating fast as if I want to escape from my chest. I ran out of the room because I was still scared of the incident. I sat outside the house waiting for my parents or brother to go home. I see my uncle still seen sleeping soundly on the sofa.

Not long after my brother came home and followed up with my parents, I told him about the incident, but they laughed at me, and so did my mother and father. I also tried to forget everything so as not to be afraid anymore. The night began to dissolve and I slept, but I woke up at 2 pm because someone knocked on my door three times.

"Why is it mother?" I thought it was my mother who knocked. But no answer at all, when morning I asked my mother "mother last night why knock the door?". My mother answered "Mother last night did not knock on the door of your room dear" I became goosebumps.

I played with my little sister who was only 5 years old. We play in my room, then suddenly the sister runs scared out of the room. I ask "why run? let's play again ". My sister cried and replied "just play it outside Sis, chan-chan is afraid!". I was shocked and shivered "afraid what dik? What's wrong with her sister's room? ". My brother also pointed to the corner of my room near the bed "Sis, there is a woman with a look of horror, chan-chan is afraid". Since that time I didn't dare to enter the room alone except with my older sister.

I heard stories from people who had lived around my residence saying that there was a Dutch red kuntilanak behind my house. Formerly the land that I and my family occupied was the teak forests and now housing, but the man said that the red kuntilanak did not interfere, instead he kept us from the genderuwo who often roam the housing complex. I was even more afraid to sleep alone.

A CCTV recording of an alleged sighting of a kuntilanak recently went hugely viral on social media and was widely reported by local media outlets. The ghost was spotted hitching a ride on the backseat of a motorcycle, reportedly at 2am on Wednesday on a bridge in Cipayung district, Depok City, West Java.

For those not well-versed in Indonesian folklore, a kuntilanak is said to be the vengeful spirit of a woman who died while pregnant. It commonly takes the form of a woman in a white night dress with long, straight but disheveled black hair covering her face. Sometimes, a kuntilanak is said to take the form of a bird and sucks the blood of virgins or young women.

Berawal dari menghilangnya pasangan yang baru saja bertunangan, Stella dan Rimson, di sebuah hutan, tim SAR Komodo yang beranggotakan Darwin, Asti, Herman dan Petra bersama dengan tim SAR udara, Albatros, untuk mencari pasangan tersebut. Tim SAR Komodo, yang menelusuri lewat jalur darat, menemukan Sam dan membujuknya untuk pergi bersama mereka melakukan perjalanan. Sesampainya di hutan dan terhalangnya akses di jalan tanah, mereka terpaksa mendaki bukit berselimut hutan belantara.

Ketika mereka mendirikan kemah, Sam didesak oleh para anggota tim SAR Komodo agar mengutarakan alasan Sam pergi sendirian ke hutan itu, tetapi Sam justru menyarankan agar mereka berhenti mencari pasangan itu agar tidak terjadi sesuatu yang tidak diinginkan. Saat itu juga, mereka mendengar suara aneh dan fenomena gaib yang memaksa mereka menjelajahi sebagian kecil hutan dan dalam proses penjelajahan itu, Sam menemukan syal merah milik Stella. Mimpi Sam menjadi penjelas bahwa arwah ibunya, Mega N. Widjoko, meminta Sam pergi ke Oejong Sedo yang berada di ujung hutan belantara untuk mencabut wangsitnya atas kuntilanak.

Keesokan paginya saat mereka menjelajahi hutan, mereka terhalang oleh kabut tebal yang mengacaukan semua alat petunjuk, baik telekomunikasi, waktu maupun arah. Setelah berhasil menembus kabut, Sam dan tim SAR Komodo menemukan dan mengikuti Yenny, anak pemilik kos Sam di yang diculik oleh kuntilanak sebelumnya. Mereka mengikuti Yenny hingga Yenny menghilang dan mereka tiba di sebuah gua. Menelusuri gua dengan ketidakpastian tujuan, mereka berpencar menjadi dua kelompok di mana masing-masing kelompok mendapat teror dan fenomena aneh yang tidak dapat dijelaskan dengan akal sehat. Puncaknya, mereka berhasil keluar dari gua tersebut dengan peringatan bahww Sam harus pergi ke rumah Mbah Putri, tempat yang menjadi asal usul wangsit kuntilanak di keluarga Mangkoedjiwo.

Tidak dapat mengelak saat berbenah kemah, Sam menjelaskan alasan ia pergi dan mereka sudah tiba di Oejong Sedo. Saat semua orang tidur, Herman yang berjaga di luar dihantui kuntilanak sehingga ia masuk ke dalam lumpur hisap. Paginya, empat orang yang tersisa mencari Herman dan berhasil menemukan sebuah pemukiman penduduk yang sudah tidak dihuni. Pemukiman itu memuat berbagai tulang belulang, sisa daging dan sebuah mayat manusia. Mereka juga menemukan bangkai sapi di mana ada bayi aneh di dalam isi perut sapi yang sudah terburai. Meskipun beberapa orang melarang untuk membawa bayi aneh itu, Petra tetap membawanya. Saat malam, bayi aneh itu menghilang dan Petra yang mencarinya diserang oleh kuntilanak, lalu ketika Asti, Darwin dan Sam mencari Petra, Sam mengikuti Yenny dan melihat sebuah lapangan dedaunan di dalam hutan di mana sekumpulan anak kecil mengikuti seekor kuda putih.

Mengejar mereka, Sam berhasil menemukan Yenny dan memata-matai kegiatan kuntilanak yang mengumpulkan sekumpulan anak kecil untuk diambil rohnya sebagai makanan kuntilanak. Ketika Yenny dan Sam pergi dari tempat itu, Darwin, yang melihat kuntilanak, diguna-guna olehnya sebelum kuntilanak menyuruh Darwin untuk membunuh dirinya sendiri. Di tengah perjalanan menuju ke rumah Mbah Putri, Sam bertemu lagi dengan Asti dan menyuruhnya untuk kembali di pagi hari dalam keadaan hidup. Yenny dan Sam tiba di tempat Mbah Putri. Mbah Putri, berhadapan dengan Sam, menceritakan asal usul kuntilanak yang berasal dari tempat itu.

Terungkap bahwa kuntilanak adalah arwah penasaran seorang ibu yang meninggal karena melahirkan anak setan yang langsung dibunuh setelah ia lahir, lalu anak setan itu mendiami perut Mbah Putri yang sudah berusia lebih dari seabad sebagai syarat yang harus dipenuhi Mbah Putri agar ia dapat hidup abadi. Lalu durmo, yang dinyanyikan oleh Sam dan seluruh anggota sekte Mangkoedjiwo, adalah ciptaan Mbah Putri agar kuntilanak bisa dipanggil dan menghisap nyawa manusia, yang membuat anak setan tetap hidup dalam perut Mbah Putri sehingga Mbah Putri hidup abadi. Lalu alasan Sam pergi ke sana untuk menghilangkan wangsit ternyata sia-sia belaka selama anak setan itu belum musnah. Sang ibu yang dilihat oleh Sam hanyalah jelmaan Mbah Putri agar Sam bisa ke Oejong Sedo dalam rangka menggantikan Mbah Putri menjadi induk semang anak setan itu, lalu Mbah Putri menyanyikan durmo hingga anak setan itu keluar dan masuk ke perut Sam. Menyadari hal itu, Sam berpesan kepada Yenny, lalu ia pergi ke air terjun dan bunuh diri agar anak setan itu tidak bisa hidup lagi di dunia.
