Hi Ronald,

We are using schedulix 2.7.
Is this version is going to end of support ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Hi John,

first of all I'm happy that the software, even in an ancient release, seems to work perfectly for you!
Naturally, if you have questions, we'll answer them.
But we won't create fixes for the 2.7 release, unless the bug is present in all releases.
(In such a case it often isn't much work to do an extra backport and to create the rpms).
Basically the rule is that we support the latest release and the two previous ones. (Currently 2.10, 2.9 and 2.8).

Hence the current state of the 2.7 is that we'll help but there won't be any 2.7 specific fixes.
From that perspective it is recommended to upgrade to a somewhat newer release (I'd say at least 2.9).

Upgrading schedulix isn't hard. If you've installed from rpms, the upgrade runs automatically.
And if you've installed it entirely yourself, the procedure is nearly the same as the original installation.
If you need help, just drop a question here.

If your company insists on using 2.7 and needs support, we'll need to negotiate (not here) about the height of the motivation.
It's not impossible, but it'll cost a few Euros.

Best regards,

Ronald

Dear Ronald,

Thank you for the reply.
Actually, we had already upgraded the schedulix to version 2.10 in server side.
But all the client agents are still remains in version 2.7.

It works pretty good at the moment.

Thank you very much and have a good day.

Dear John,

the Jobservers are pretty stupid and do just the one thing they are made for.
This leads to a very low change frequency.

We've added some new features in the 2.11 release but the last bug fix is about 6 month old and addressed Jobservers on Windows systems.
The bug fix before was related to the HTTP thread that is responsible for the log file display. If you don't have issues, don't worry.

But if you'd like to upgrade the Jobservers, it only requires exchanging the BICsuite.jar file.
The second half of the Jobserver, the Jobexecutor, hasn't been changed since 2019 and the changes at that time were minor.
No urgent reason to replace it.

The bottom line is: if your server is up to date, you're on the safe side.
We will help you in case of issues, including the creation of patches.
And if some bug is Jobserver related, upgrading it is a piece of cake.

Best regards,

Ronald
