A child’s first educators are his mother and father. Parents need to ingrain in their children the feeling that they are different from the entire world, for they are the members of a goy kadosh (holy nation). The order of the pasuk is “mother and father.” The mother is mentioned first because she is the akeres habayis, and so the chinuch is primarily in her hands. (Likkutei Sichos, vol. 1, p. 255)
