It’s obvious that deception in general is forbidden, for “One should distance oneself from falsehood.” We should even be very careful not to tell children falsehoods when we have good intentions. The reason is that eventually the child will realize that he has been told a lie, which will leave the impression that it is permissible to lie, and there is no way to know how the yetzer hara will take advantage of this.
