Upcoming in-person event: Combined SCGIS-DC and GeoDC meetup!

Hi SCGIS-DC,

As mentioned, SCGIS-DC has been invited to join the April GeoDC Meetup to share our work on conservation GIS! The event will be held in person on Tuesday, April 4th at 6pm at City-State Brewing Company located near the Rhode Island Avenue metro station (red line). 

We will hear from three SCGIS-DC volunteer presenters: 

Thayer Young from Cicada GIS and speaking on behalf of the Friends of Gwynns Falls Leakin Park and Old-Growth Forest Network, will talk about enhancing Baltimore's wilderness using GIS for grassroots forest preservation.

Joel Masselink from Creative Associates will present a personal project in progress assessing recent alarming expansion of semi-industrial mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Pui-Yu Ling from Defenders of Wildlife will speak about a project working to identify strategic locations to foster forest regeneration and achieve global goals of mitigating climate change and restoring biodiversity.

The food vendor will be J.B. Humble Pies.

Hi all,

For those of you who are coming out tonight, the event will be held in the back room of the brewery. Just ask someone if you have trouble finding it. 

GeoDC meets at 6pm but the presentations won't start till closer to 7pm FYI. Please do come early to grab a drink and meet your other GeoDC and SCGIS-DC colleagues!
