Society for Conservation GIS

28th International Conference!

We would like to share the following information about the upcoming Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) annual conference. Please share with your network and anyone you believe would be interested!

Who we are

The Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) is an all-volunteer, U.S. based 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are an organization committed to advancing conservation GIS globally by building and supporting a vibrant community of conservation GIS practitioners.  Our mission is to support and grow an inclusive global community using geospatial technology for conservation of biodiversity, natural environments, and cultural heritage.

When: June 30th - July 2nd, 2025

This year's theme is Geospatial Technology Innovations for Conservation. Geospatial technologies are evolving rapidly. We are challenged to keep up with developments in software platforms and new tools as exciting and creative technologies spring from commercial companies, research institutions and nonprofit conservation organizations.

This year, we are honored to have David Saah and Allen Carroll as our Keynote Speakers.

Allen Carroll - Esri

Allen will reflect on a decades-long career of map-based storytelling, dating back through 14 years at Esri and 27 years at National Geographic, and spanning the dawn of the digital age. He’ll discuss the special role of maps in weaving tales, and consider how combining maps and multimedia creates exciting storytelling opportunities

David Saah - University of San Francisco

Dr. David Saah will discuss how innovations bridge science and decision-making to empower diverse groups in conservation. By integrating satellite imagery, AI-driven analytics, and open-source tools, we can enhance collaboration, improve environmental stewardship, and drive data-driven policy for a sustainable future.

Call for Abstracts and Curated Sessions is open until

March 15th!

More information here!

What conservation GIS projects have you been exploring recently?  Our annual conference is the perfect place to share your work and experience with your colleagues. We invite you to submit abstracts on a wide range of topics pertaining to conservation GIS.

Abstracts Presentation vs Curated Session

An Abstract Presentation is a single, 10-12 minute presentation (with 3 - 5 minutes for questions), where the solo presenter discusses their work on a project, problem or topic.

A Curated Session can be in the form of a multi-speaker session, a panel or training.  These sessions are longer in length (example: 1 hour) and are designed by the submitter (you!).
