When your nanostation is bricked, or if the stock firmware won't let you flash our custom firmware, you can use the In-System Programming (ISP) technique to reflash the device (see also the Flashrom wiki. You're going to need:
About 10 days ago we were experiencing issues with our Unifi APs and discovered the latest Unfi Firmware was the issue so we downgraded to 4.3.20.11298. Since then it has been causing links between our point-to-point connections we have setup. Prior to the upgrade of the Unfi APs, these PTPs were 100% stable (on UNMS/UISP) and ever since we have disconnects occurring about 1 to 2 minutes apart. We have two of these connections between 3 buildings (two from our main building to two other buildings). One connection uses two NanoBeam 5AC 16s and the other uses two NanoStation 5AC locos. Again, before the firmware upgrade to the Unifi APs these connections were completely stable. The NanoBeams and NanoStations were running 8.6.2 firmware and upgrded them to 8.7.1 with little or no improvment in the number of disconnects.
Normally the firmware of your UniFi devices is updated through the console. But sometimes we will need to update the UniFi Firmware manually. For example, when you are unable to adopt an access point.
After you have started the firmware upgrade you will lose your SSH connection. The device will update the firmware and reboot once completed. It can take a couple of minutes until the upgrade is completed.
If you have a device that you've tried to set-inform from SSH, but it's not showing up for adoption in your UniFi controller, a common problem is that the device's firmware needs to be manually upgraded before it can be adopted.
The device should reboot with the new firmware version which you can verify with the info command. Then you should be able to set-inform from there, or set-default then set-inform if you have any problems.
The first file ending with 'factory.bin' in the directory is for an upgrade a router's factory state and firmware, while the second one ending with 'sysupgrade.bin' should be applied when upgrading from openWRT or DD-WRT.
