Important information about the SCDC

Hey everyone I think there has been some confusion about what is happening with the SCDC so I wanted to write everyone this email. First I want to say that it has been a pleasure to be President of this organization for the past 5 years. I have made so many amazing friends and feel blessed that I could do so much for the community. The SCDC turned into a very thriving organization and I just know there are wonderful things to come.  I am transitioning out of my role as President since my son will be going to Kindergarten in September. I will still be organizing the Toy and Baby Gear Sale this year and organizing the gymnastics classes through June.  Otherwise, I will be more in the background and you will primarily be hearing from Rana and Erin. 

So the SCDC originally started 45 years ago under the umbrella of the school Department.  It broke away probably about 2 decades ago into it's own entity. We functioned as a non profit, but technically did not have the official status. Someone opened up a bank account 30 years ago under the Tax ID # of the town. We were forced to close this over 2 years ago, which made us turn into a cash business.  It did not appear this was best for the organization, but only running the SCDC myself, it was too daunting of a task to make it a non profit on my own.  That brings me to Erin and Rana.  They have stepped up to take over to continue providing these wonderful opportunities to the community.  They took on the task on developing a non profit, and in doing so the name had to be changed. A non profit organization is not allowed to have any connection to a prior organization, so the name SCDC could not remain. They thought about a name that would capture the mission of the organization, while keeping Shrewsbury in the name. That is how Shrewsbury Childrens Connection (SCC) was born.  It is officially up an running now and you will be receiving emails from the SCC now.  There is also a new website, which is much more user friendly and functional than the old one that was made over 10 years ago. There are so many exciting things coming and I am happy to know that all my hard work over the past 5 years will continue. You are in good hands with Rana and Erin.
