Hi guys,

Just a quick recap for those of you who missed out on last week's meeting. We are rebranding the Adobe group as "Sunshine Coast Digital" and merging with another project which was started a year ago by a like-minded developer who has since moved away. After a bit of wrangling I have negotiated taking over the website and domain for http://www.sunshinecoastdigital.com.au/ which was started a couple of years ago by a guy called Matthew with the intention of creating a central point of contact for digital web professionals on the coast. I have often thought there is more potential for the group beyond our little meetings, and I would really like your support.

At this stage we will continue to hold our regular meetings and remain associated with Adobe (perhaps under a sub-group e.g. "Sunshine Coast Digital Adobe Group", but this is open to discussion).

The group's purpose will be to connect and promote digital professionals on the coast, with a particular emphasis on web developers and web designers. I spent some time today quickly rebuilding the existing Wordpress site in Drupal (unsurprisingly), and I have a few more ideas including a job board, a new logo as well as a redesign. The website itself will serve basically as an online directory for digital agencies, freelancers, and web service providers on the coast. From there we will aim to grow our network and build credibility as a central network for people in our industry.

There are still a lot of details to nut out and we don't know exactly what the future will hold, but this is an exciting time. We are discussing the possibility of registering ourselves as a formal entity (incorporated association) which would also help build credibility and avoid any kind of abuse by whoever controls the site (me, motherf&*kers).

As a first step I would love it if you would all make sure you have a listing on the SCD website, and if you don't already have one you can easily submit one using the online form. Secondly, it would be great if you could join the LinkedIn group. Thirdly if anybody has any ideas, feedback etc. then please let's discuss. There is a lot to talk about so we will be sure to hold a meeting next month where you can find out the latest and get involved.

Regards

Adrian

Sounds like a great plan Adrian. Look forward to seeing how it develops.
I've been thinking about creating a JUG (Java User Group) on the coast.
Maybe we could bring that under the same umbrella. That said, I'm not
really sure how many java users are on the coast or who would be
interested. The site looks great btw.

Greatness. I have joined.

One idea: Should there be a Clients page where we could list all our clients under our brand and under a common clients SCD listing with a link to the clients site, may also slightly help with Small Biz SEO?

Nice work Adrian.

Thanks guys, will put those ideas on the list.

Jason - At some stage I might add a blog and maybe we can cast the net and see if there are any interested Java users out there. Or if you find anyone then feel free to bring them along and start some Java talk.

Matt - I think you are the only one without a listing now…

If anyone knows of any glaring omissions from the directory (http://www.sunshinecoastdigital.com.au/directory) then please let me know. I am sure there plenty out there I've never come across.

A
