SMC Youth Media Program Registration opens TUESDAY MARCH 10th @ Noon!

Greetings SMC Parents,

Hope all is well with you! Despite it still being cold and grey (c'mon daylight savings!) it is officially that time where we will be opening up registration for our summer youth media programs. The schedule has been posted on our website here and the link to register can be found in the drop down menu under 'youth'. Right now it's a dummy page but the registration form will go live on March 10th at noon! Each session has 3 partial scholarships and 2 full scholarships for income eligible youth that recieve free/reduced lunch. The other 8 slots are for any youth. Programs run from 9am-3:30pm with an optional extended day add-on. For each program session we will be hiring 2 7th or 8th grade CITs who will have full scholarships to attend, and 2 paid high school age Teen Media Leaders who will help staff the program. Interviews for those positions will be opening in mid to late April, but feel free to reach out if you or your child might be interested!

Greetings SMC families,

Hope you are all staying relatively positive as we navigate this strange new world. In an effort to stay connected with our youth and larger community, as we announced last week we are bringing in some new ongoing remote programming for youth:

• Make it Mondays - TODAY and every Monday @4pm! The link to join via Zoom is here, or you can watch it live through the SMC Youtube Page. These are approximately 30 minute tutorials where Heather or Kat teaches a specific media production skill. Today's skill: making a beat in Garageband!
• What's up Wednesdays - every Wednesday at 4pm, a time for our youth to check in and chat about what's going on in their lives. Link to join is here. 
• #Tiktokchallenge - Kat has posted the first tik tok challenge on our SMC Discord Server. Videos must be 15-60 seconds and either a) created on tiktok or b) created on your own, and then sent to kat at kathlyn...@gmail.com or through the Discord server. Rules: Be creative, Have fun, a new challenge will be available every 3 days. The first one? Find a creative way to tell people to wash their hands--can be a comedy, trend, trailer, or anything. Due Wednesday at 7pm. Each challenge we'll upload to our SMC Youth Media tiktok and we'll pick a winner to shower with praise!
• Disasterpiece Theater: After a hilariously successful Disasterpiece this past Thursday, we are very excited to continue to bring these cheesefest movie screenings on a weekly basis. Suggestions welcome for this week's Disaster, which will be held at 5pm at this link.

Last thing, just want to clarify that 3:30 on Wednesdays will be the permanent What's Up Wednesdays check in time going forward. The link to join is here. Also the first #tiktokchallenge is due today at 7pm, be sure to encourage your youth to participate!
