For those of you who have not heard, my family and I have decided to
turn a new leaf in our lives. We are leaving Massachusetts for the
mountains of western North Carolina. Before the end of the summer, I
will have finished my projects for SCAP and hopefully assisted with a
transition plan for the opiate work in my community to continue on
without me.
My last event will be this Monday, April 30 at Somerville High School.
It's SCAP's 4th Annual Addictoin Forum. I am personally inviting you
to join me. It's with great appreciation that you have supported my
community for the past 4 years. The Forum is destined to be the
greatest!
We'll start the night with a light dinner at 6:30pm. Mayor Joseph
Curtatone and Noreen Burke, Director of Somerville's Health Department
will welcome you and share information about how addiction has
impacted our community. We will be hearing Michael Botticelli, Asst.
Commissioner of DPH Bureau of Substance Abuse Services update us about
what is happening in substance abuse prevention, intervention and
treatment statewide. We'll hear from our local treatment providers,
getting an update about what is new at their agencies as well as
intake information. We'll view the HBO documentary 'Addiction':
Getting an Addict into Treatment: The CRAFT Approach. There will be a
moderated dialogue about the documentary, including an open mike where
you could hear a story about recovery or a story of a mother's
struggle to get her child treatment.
Please bring your thoughts, questions and concerns. The audience is
meant for both young and old, so kids are more than welcome! The SCAP
Youth Activites Club will be hosting a fundraiser at this event, so if
you have a teen that is looking for something to be connected to, they
can get more info about our youth group.
In my hopes of making this event great, I am asking you to forward
this flyer to others. If you come, bring a friend!
Looking forward to Monday!
