During the last 3 months I processed nearly two dozen books of about 6000 double pages.
I think it is necessary to finer adjust the algorithm in so far as there are only adjustable top and buttom endpoints.
This is not enough. The transition from top to bottom on curved sides does not take place continuously.
A better way will be to add adjustable 'middlepoints' or better to quarter the page and add three adjustable lines.

Unfortunately, introducing curvature to vertical boundaries of the dewarping grid breaks the assumption of pages being cylindrical surfaces in 3D. A cylindrical surface is something consisting of adjacent parallel lines. For instance, a staircase is a cylindrical surface. The dewapring algorithm used in Scan Tailor can only deal with cylindrical surfaces, so you can't break that assumption.

This is a misunderstanding, I suggest the introduction of additional adjustable horizontal lines.

I see. That would still break the cylindrical surface assumption though. Perhaps it could be treated as several cylindrical surfaces then, each surface between a pair of horizontal curves.

This may work, however I don't believe anyone is currently working on Scan Tailor, so I don't see this feature being implemented any time soon.

Why is there currently no working on Scan Tailor - already quite a while?

Currently I'm using the portable 32bit Version 0.2.22. It offers by far the best results. Okay, also some bugs.
64bit is not running. Is a running 64bit available?

The 0.2.22 is some kind of unofficial version. I suspect it corresponds to Scan Tailor Experimental build 2016-02-22, which is the latest one. Still, I would stick to official builds from https://github.com/Tulon/scantailor/releases. There is no portable version being offered, though copying the installation directory should still work.

As for 64bit version not working, try installing this package:
It shouldn't be required, though it could still help.

Also make sure this update is installed if you are on Windows 8.1 or earlier:

Finally, Scan Tailor Experimental no longer supports Windows XP or earlier.
