Hi - I'm trying to setup a DateAndTime scaling rule using an America timezone.  I add a
schedule rule with a START/END TIME, DAYS of WEEK, and INSTANCES COUNT
with Launch/Terminate.   However, the associated instances do not terminate/launch -
I've tested on various timezones, and start/end times but the rule does not get applied.
I noticed the TIMEZONE is not set in the USER INTERFACE settings (I don't seem
to have the ability to change this as the account is managed by another user).
Does the USER INTERFACE timezone need to be set to get DateAndTime scaling
rules to work?

Risk,

You should be able to set the timezone at the Farm level in the General tab, but maybe you aren't a Farm Designer.  If you cannot, then I think you can expect poor results trying to use time-based scaling.

I will add a couple of extra hints...
  1. maybe check your minimum and maximum instance values.  If you write a schedule that says you want 2 servers after Lunch, but your Max Instances are set to 1 it will not scale to 2.
  2. Maybe without a timezone it defaults to Greenwich mean time.  (+/- 0 hours)
  3. Also, be a bit patient.  Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the event to trigger
Can you see log files?  If not, get that Farm Designer to set you up with a proper timezone

Thanks for the reply Jay,  I did have TZ set in the general farm settings but MIN and MAX instances were both equal
in the scaling settings -  when I set the MIN to 0 it worked fine.

Raj,

That's exactly how it worked for me.  I have a question.

What are you building?  I'm building a set of labs for my Dev and QA teams.  I'm using DateAndTime scaling to turn off VMs at night.  I'm just curious what you are building.  We can talk off line if you'd like.
