I'm about to create a snapshot for a MySQL server. The purpose of the snapshot is that new slaves should run from this image (and also new masters in case of a crash). The following message is showed when you choose 'Create Server Snapshot'

You are about to synchronize MySQL instance. The bundle will not include MySQL data. Click here if you wish to bundle and save MySQL data.

Is there any risk of loosing data when creating a snapshot? I'm guessing not but I want to be 100% sure.

Hi Jonas,

There is no risk of losing data when creating server snapshot.
This warning message for those who are not aware of the fact MySQL server snapshot doesn't include MySQL data and there is another way of creating MySQL data snapshot in Scalr.

Regards,
Nick

So if you select to create a snapshot and opt to replace the Role in the current farm only and don't create the bundle will you be left with a server with a mysql database but no data files from the server you took the snapshot from?

Also the option to bundle the data files does not seem to give you an option of attaching the datafile once the snapshot is installed, is that a manual process afterwards?

Regards
Paul
