Dear Sir or Madam

I would like ask whether it is possible I obtain some help in relation to the following problem:

I try install the SCALE 6.1 in a notebook with Fedora 20.

The installation is concluded but appear the following message:

could not read shortcut spec!

com.izforge.izpack.installer.ResourceNotFoundException: Cannot find named Resource: '/res/shortcutSpec.xml' AND '/res/shortcutSpec.xml_eng'

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.ResourceManager.getLanguageResourceString(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.ResourceManager.getInputStream(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.panels.ShortcutPanel.readShortcutSpec(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.panels.ShortcutPanel.panelActivate(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.InstallerFrame.switchPanel(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.InstallerFrame.navigateNext(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.InstallerFrame$NavigationHandler.navigate(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.InstallerFrame$NavigationHandler.access$100(Unknown Source)

            at com.izforge.izpack.installer.InstallerFrame$NavigationHandler$1.run(Unknown Source)

            at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:744)

Running the code, the output file  inform the error:

"BOM: Bad file descriptor

QIconvCodec::convertFromUnicode: using Latin-1 for conversion, iconv_open failed

QIconvCodec::convertToUnicode: using Latin-1 for conversion, iconv_open failed "

The line command is:

../../scale/scale6.1/cmds/batch6.1 ./teste.inp -o myteste

The input file is a Manual example of page C6.4.5 for use of the CSAS6.

I think that may be an installation problem.

I installed Java 6u37 and did the installation of SCALE using java -jar scale6[...]_no_source.jar -direct.

Would you mind of  suggest some procedure to solve this trouble?

With Best Regards

Dear Clésio I. de Oliveira
I see this has not been responded to so I am going to provide my understanding of the issues.

First, SCALE 6.1 was compiled on an older Linux kernel than what is being used in the newer Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL, etc., and because of this some of the SCALE runtime environment methods fail. These failures occur in the Qt methods and appear to have failsafes as we have not observed the failures effect the outcome of SCALE execution.

Are there any failures observed when running the SCALE sample suite? Because the errors are coming from the SCALE runtime environment, if it were a problem it would effect all sample problems, and none of the problems would complete successfully.

Second, the installation exception appears to only involve a shortcut, which should not effect the SCALE installation itself, just the desktop icon, which may be related to you running a non-english windows language pack.

Neither of these issues should prevent successful execution of SCALE 6.1.
Thank you,
Rob Lefebvre

Dear Rob Lefebvre

I would like thank your answer. But I think the issue that occurred was with the program of decompactation and installation of SCALE. I couldn't complete the installation on Linux. I think that may be some problem with my Linux version installed and the version of Izpack or related code. I tried during a certain time solve this issue but after some attempts the solution more easy that I used was install the SCALE in a PC with Windows. In the Windows, I ran the SCALE very well.
