I am looking to simulate the process line of a fuel recycle facility using ORIGEN-S. I have used ARP to generate the input LWR spent fuel into the facility. How can I use ORIGEN-S to modify the ARP data to seperate the elements so I can analyze the source terms and decay heat from each process stream? I do not expect a direct answer for this but rather some direction to a user friendly manual or example (the ORIGEN-S manual is a little difficult to understand). There must be a sample input file that is fully commented floating around somewhere.

Any direction is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Nathan Obermiller

Stream separations are performed using the FREPRO array (79*) in ORIGEN-S that specifies the fraction of the elements from the previous case that are retained in the present case. It is triggered by setting MSUB of present case negative. There is an example of this option (although not for your type of application) in section F7.6.6 (Data Note B). This example actually combines the separation with a blending to obtain a new combined material. The other processing options are batch processing (combing different process streams) and continuous feed and removal options. If you are using OrigenArp Windows GUI, the FREPRO processing option is provided in the decay case menu by clicking on button "n/m elements" and setting the fractions of elements from previous case to either remove, or retain.
