Hi,

Is it possible to obtain edits of fission rates from various isotopes in ORIGEN-ARP? If not, is it possible to obtain access to the epithermal/thermal and fast/thermal flux ratios for the various fuel assembly design options?

Thanks,

Todd Palmer

Todd

The ability to print fission rates was recently added to ORIGEN and will be available in the next release of SCALE this summer. The new option will print either absolute or relative fission rates for every fissionable nuclide. This was added to support applications related to the ANS-5.1 decay heat standard which requires fractions of fissions.

The flux ratios are stored in the library in header record 1 and (for libraries with different burnup dependent cross section sets) record 41.

These are described in Table M6.6.1 and M6.6.2. It would be helpful if these values were printed with the other library information when it is read by ORIGEN but they currently are not. The easiest way to access the ratios may be to use COUPLE, the library management code. You can print most of the library contents this way. However, it will only give you the ratios for the first set of cross sections. Alternatively, you could convert the library to text format using REORG utility - although a bit tedious to find what you are looking for. You can ask ORIGEN to dump the library contents which will provide you with one-group fission cross sections (see 3$ input NN2 variable).

Hi,

The above entry is five years old, but I have basically the same question and it seems from reading the SCALE6 documentation, that there may have been a feature added to do this in a simple way. Thus, how do I obtain fission rates per isotope out of origen-arp?

Thanks, Patrick
