Has anyone installed and run SCALE on Windows 8?  A former colleague of mine needs a new PC and queried me.  I have successfully run versions 5.1, 6.0, and 6.1 on Windows 7, so I assume they might run on Windows 8, but I would rather advise on more than an assumption.

I tried to install SCALE6.1 on Windows 8 but the installer wouldn't even start.

I have it running on Win8.  Aside from the Java issue (had to reinstall Java 6 to get it to install) it appears to be working fine.  After I installed the Scale package, I installed Java 7 back and it appears to work fine, ie the test suite completed successfully.

I've run SCALE 6.1 with Windows 8.0 and 8.1 on Microsoft's new Windows Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 tablet machines. It works fine on these, but I have not been able to get the Java and Javapeno applets to work yet. I suspect that the Java issue is not related to Windows 8.0 - 8.1 though, since I can't get these applets to work on my Windows 7 desktop machine either.

Note that my Java difficulties are not related to installing SCALE 6.1. They pop up whenever I try to display the resulting graphic plots such as keff convergence in the HTML output.

Yes, you can install and run SCALE 6.1 on Windows 8. Before installing SCALE, download and install Java version 6 release 37. (If you already have Java installed, you may have to uninstall your current version before installing V6R37). Once Java 6 is installed, all of the SCALE installers and applets should work properly.
