Dear Sir

I have a question about using ORIGEN-S & OPUS of SCALE5.1.

Why are the result of ORIGEN and the result of OPUS different about curies of Se79. I attach my input file.

In output file of my input, Se79 at discharge is 1.541E-05 curie in ORIGEN, but it is 1.377E-05 curie in OPUS. Another nuclide are almost agree between ORIGEN and OPUS about curie. This problem does not happen at SCALE5. Please let me know your advices.

Thanks,

Y, Matsui

Dear Y Matsui

OPUS is performing the activity calculation using the atom inventories calculated by ORIGEN and decay constants obtained from a binary library. In this case the decay data used in the OPUS conversion is different than that used by ORIGEN. There have been several recent corrections made to nuclear decay data, Se-79 being a nuclide that has an incorrect decay constant in ENDF/B-VI (see ORIGEN-ARP notebook entry 91 and SCALE notebook entry 110). The default binary library read by OPUS is on logical unit 21 (pwr33gwd), which is made from the card-image library on unit 28. These libraries should therefore have identical decay data (regardless of cross section updating). OPUS can not read the

card-image, but to maintain consistency it should be reading a binary library made from the same card image library on 28. If you have made any changes to the library or are using card-image and binary files of different origin, differences may be observed. To change the binary library used by OPUS set libu= to the correct unit.

Let me know if this does not correct the discrepancy you observed.

Dear Ian

My binary library (SCALE5.1/data/origen.rev02.pwr33gwd in UNIX) was too old. Its file date is 2004/03/31. Maybe it has not been updated.

Today, I tried to run script "makelibraries" for updating libraries. By using this new library, the difference between ORIGEN and OPUS became zero. Thanks.

My way to install SCALE5.1 to unix system was

1. make configure

2. installscale

3. runsmpls

according to README.

But this way did not update pwr33gwd library.

Add to this, it need "makelibraries".

On WINDOWS, same. Is it needed to run the script "scale5.1\work\makedata.bat" manually ?

Dear Yusuke,

This problem occurred because we failed to remake the pwr33gwd binary library after the last updates were made to the card-image decay library, origen.rev03.end6dec.data. We are grateful that you helped us identify this error.

On Windows, you should run the attached origen_data.inp case. The version distributed in \scale5.1\work has not been updated since SCALE 5.0.

We apologize for this mistake.

Regards

Steve Bowman
