SCALE Users,

While running the SCALE 6.2b4 sample problems I ran into the following JAVA-related error messages:

Now running the devc.smpl03 sample problem at Wed 18/03/2015 16:31:53...

The devc.smpl03 sample problem has finished at Wed 18/03/2015 16:33:35.

Error: Registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'\CurrentVersion'

has value '1.8', but '1.7' is required.

Error: could not find java.dll

Error: Could not find Java SE Runtime Environment.

After a little poking around on the internet, I was able to fix the problem by deleting java.exe, javaw.exe, and javaws.exe from the Windows\System32\ directory.

It appears that JAVA 1.7 added these files to the Windows\system32 and the uninstaller for JAVA 1.8 did not remove or overwrite them.

There is some chance that as SCALE users update their JAVA to 1.8, they may also see similar issues with other JAVA-based applications.

Thanks,

Don Mueller
