server side :coffeefilter compilation

It doesn't seem readily apparent to me how to enable this. Using the filter prints coffeescript directly into the source, which is fine with client-side parsing, but all of the Scalate documentation eludes to server-side parsing that I can't seem to trigger. Am I missing something?
