Dear Stergios, dear all,

I am a student at AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand, and I would like to ask if this project is going to apply for the upcoming Google Summer of Code 2014 [1] ? Organisation/project applications are due 14th of February, so end of this week.

I could imagine, it would have great potential, to get some some traction around the open source community and support the project in general terms. In my personal interest is more in geospatial data processing. I wonder if Scala and ScalaLab then has something or could get something in a toolbox or so ;-)

I don't have much of a Scala background, mainly Java though and a bit Python, but for my PhD I'd like to get into scientific programming (hydrology, groundwater, geodata in general) and I'm very attracted to the Scala performance and flexibility.

Some ideas I had, where I possibly could support (within or without GSoC) would be something like a plugin mechanism to have the project a bit more modular? Documentation and/or the project setup and organisation, download section.

Best Regards,
Alex

Dear Alexander,

personally I cannot apply,
since at this year I'm very pressed in terms of free time.

If you want to apply with ScalaLab,
I'm very glad to support and to help you,
for anything that I can!

Best Regards

Stergios

Hi Stergios,

thanks for your email. But I guess, you're the only one who could mentor
it :-D ? Do you know an organisation/university that could have a direct
interest in ScalaLab?

I'll see what I can do :-)

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I'm afraid, I cannot support, at least seriously, such efforts,
since the universities at all the infrastructures at this time. in Greece
are very bad,
are at a state of disintegration!

Technically only I can provide any assistance that I can!

Ok, alright, that's sad to hear. I hope you'll be alright there.

My best wishes,
Alex
