ScalaFX 2 (SFX-2) supports JavaFX 2 (provided with Java 7). As of April 15 Oracle will no longer provides updates for Java 7.
ScalaFX commit policy so
far was to first commit against SFX-2
branch (supporting ScalaFX 2). Merge SFX-2 into the
main branch develop
(supporting ScalaFX 8). Then add any changes specific to JavaFX
8 support to develop. This
made sens when ScalaFX 2 was actively developed, but added a lot
of extra overhead.
Since there will be no further public updates to Java 7, it will make sens to stop active support of ScalaFX 2, focus on ScalaFX 8, and look toward ScalaFX 9 as Java 9 should be future complete by the end of the year.
I am planing not to release any more ScalaFX 2 binaries and change the commit policy to target ScalaFX 8 directly. If there is somebody that would like to maintain back-ports to SFX-2 and prepare ScalaFX 2 releases let me know. We can discuss how to coordinate it with ScalaFX 8.
Let me know what you think about focusing on ScalaFX 8 and sun-setting ScalaFX 2,
Jarek
