Hi,
just wanted to let you know, the upcoming Java Meetup at 27th of Jaenner 2014, see http://jsug.at/wiki/Meeting_61, has two topics that are as important to Scala as to Java developers. Esp."Understanding Java Garbage Collection" by a guest speaker from Azul Systems sounds really interesting. If you want to come, pls just register your interest for this single event using the eventbrite link, so there is enough pizza for you. Pizza is free ;-) You do not have to register as Java User Group member, only if you like of course ;-)

Nice, sounds really good, thanks for the tip.
If any you of is attending and needs a primer/refresher on GC, a very straight-forward article is http://www.infoq.com/articles/Java_Garbage_Collection_Distilled. Also, the The well-grounded java developer has a  great 15-pages introduction to the subject, and it's overall a very good book.
