I want to load the Scala-ide.org plugin. I tried the 2 available on
the Scala-ide, download page, releases 28 and 29. They both failed to
load. The download page indicates that they require Ecliplse 3.6 or
even 3.7, Since I have Eclipse 3.5 that was no big surprise.

I have the dkpged Scala 2.7.7 compiler loaded on the system
externally.

What version of the Scala-ide plugin do I need and where can I find an
archive?

I can't find an archive for the Scala-ide anywhere.

thanks in advance.

How come you can't upgrade eclipse?

I've been using Len now for a couple of years. I just completed a
major update.
I think Squeeze, the newest Deb release has Eclipse 3.6.

I could point aptitude at a Squeeze repository and grab Eclipse 3.6,
but couldn't doing that result in breaking something else in Lenny?
This system seems pretty stable now. I use it daily for Java Devl.
I think it would be safer to stick with "stable" packages from the
Lenny distribution on this machine. Any idea where I might find an
archive of the Scala-ide?

So just download the eclipse zip from eclipse.org and use it side by side with, or instead of, the packaged eclipse.

Also you could download the .deb directly from the Squeeze repository. Check if it has any dependencies you don't have (it shouldn't).

You should upgrade your eclipse - there is no reason why your deb
system has to maintain that package (and hold you back). Worst case,
download the eclipse distribution and install it manually (it's just a
zip that get extracted in any case).

Long, long, long time Linux user here. I never use the packaged
Eclipse IDE shipped with (any) distribution.

Get it from Eclipse.org instead.

This is my stack running on XFCE, works great.
