Hi

Firstly if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Martin Odersky will be teaching a free online course entitled 'Functional Programming Principles in Scala', starting Wednesday next week with details and signup at https://www.coursera.org/course/progfun It may be a good idea, and fun, to have a Study Group to help everybody along.

The feedback I've had is very much 50-50 on if we should have a Study Group on weekday evening of weekend, so we're going with both to start with, (I think they probably work better as smaller group). Depending on how many attend and what everybody want then they will get modified over the weeks ( having more groups is also not out if the question).

The two events to start with are:

Fridays 6pm - Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre    http://www.meetup.com/london-scala/events/80921882/
Saturday 1pm - Barbican                                            http://www.meetup.com/london-scala/events/80921882/

Please sign up if you are planning on coming to come as it gives us an idea on numbers, but it does not make any difference attending or doing the course.

(If anybody know of other locations that has free wi-fi and you don't have to purchase drinks etc in Central London that we could use then I would be very much interested in hearing about it).

Please remember that this is a self-help study group, I haven't planned anything, there is no lecture, slides and possible anybody who knows all the answers :-), but between up then we should so better that individually and have fun while doing it.
The reasons for picking friday/saturday is so that everybody has some time to watch the videos beforehand and still have time for the assignments afterwards. However following weeks may change depending on what people think after the first week.

Comments and suggestions welcome.
Andy
