Looking at Java and Scala jobs in various countries on Indeed.com the ratios look like this:

                       JAVA / SCALA
London           1212 / 100 =  12.1
Ireland              344 / 16  =  21.5
UK                  2733 / 115 =  23.8
Australia           379 / 14  =  27.1
Netherlands    1198 / 33  =  36.3
Poland            1116 / 23  =  48.5
Russia              422 / 8   =  52.8
US                 11197 / 201 =  55.7
Japan              1629 / 23  =  70.1
Italy                 1463 / 17  =  86.1
Germany         3005 / 31  =  96.9
Switzerland       548 / 5   =  109.6
France             2470 / 19  =  130
Sweden             167 / 1   =  167
India                6870 / 23  =  299
Austria               294 / 0   =  294
Brazil                 483 / 1   =  483
Belgium             532 / 1   =  532
Spain               1213 / 2   =  607
China             31225 / 9   = 3469

Figures are for the language appearing in the job title and exclusive of other languages.

From this it would appear that Scala is atypically popular in London but still not making a dent in Java's dominance. The Asian continent seems to be particularly Scala-averse for some reason.

Or am I missing something? :)

Another place to look at pretty charts on scala, java and other jobs
is http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/jobs/uk/scala.do

I'm always suspicious of stats like this, it's very easy to say x is
is more popular than y, I'm guessing that 90% of all scala jobs also
include the word 'java' so that wont help in a comparison like this

As for why London, do you get different results (ie clojure is more
popular in Paris) or is London just more diverse in it coding
languages ?
