Hi
With the August Bank Holiday marking the traditional end to summer, it time to give a list of whats coming up in the next couple of months.
To show how packed this is: 1 single week there is 4 training courses, 4 evening talks, and Martin's assignment todo.
This months I'm pleased to say we have Noel Welsh from
_.underscore giving a talk on 'Making Big Data Small: Streaming Algorithms in Scala' at
SkillsMatter and the
Coding Dojo on the 20th thanks to Pawel and
TIMGroup
Jobs Board
Martin Odersky's Functional Programming Principles in Scala
My current thinking is that it would be good to have some type of study group, probably around the Friday/Saturday where we can help each other out it bit we don't understand and maybe go a bit further than the course does. (This may be 'limited' by the normal Coursera honor code and what we can do as a group)
I have had a couple of offers of offers of office space etc but have fixed anything yet. (and it way be easier to come/go at somewhere like a pub/coffeeshop that and office where the entrance must be kept locked)
An idea of who is planning on doing the course and suggestion and comments on what they would like to do will be gratefully received
JAXLondon
This years jaxlondon has a number of scala talks and speakers with: Peter Hilton (Play Framework 2), Nikita Ivanov (Improving MapReduce: Scala and GridGain To The Rescue!), Brendan McAdams ( MongoDB on the JVM ), Heiko Seeberger (Scala in Action, Scaling up and out with Akka ) and possibly more if you look harder.

In November we have Scala eXchange and the happy return of Martin to give a keynote.
If you dont know I'm helping out Skillsmatter with organising and we already have some great speakers. I'm hoping we can have some unconference, like last years scala liftoff, as I think that works well and gives everybody a chance to learn things on subjects they are interested in and not just form the selected speakers. If you have any suggestions on topics/speakers or you want to do a talk then, please, let me know and I'm more than happy to talk about it.

We are always looking for speakers so if you would like to give a talk about something then let me know. Also if you have an idea for a different event or want to run your own scala event then let me know, I will help in any way.
