Hi, what is the error message that you are getting? What is the update-site that are you using to install V2.1-M2? (http://download.scala-ide.org/releases-29/milestone/site?)

Updating from V2.0 to V2.1-M2 should work just fine. And, uninstalling the Scala IDE, should definitely be possible (though, highly discouraged :))

Scala IDE for Eclipse will be ignored because it is already installed, and updates are not permitted.

And the update site I'm using is: http://download.scala-ide.org/releases-29/milestone/site

Could you check the error log and paste the related message.

Yep, the update site is the good one. No idea what's going on, hopefully the error log will give us a hint...

That makes sense. So the problem is that Eclipse does not have
sufficient file permissions to update the plugin.

But which files should I give easier access rights? I first tried
giving full rights to all files in the Eclipse folder + subfolders,
but that didn't help.
Finally I gave full rights to my complete home folder + subfolders,
with sudo chmod -R 777 * (I'm on OSX).
But still I get the same error .. Does the Scala plugin store some of
it's files somewhere else on the filesystem?
